There are two commonly used brush materials for bottle brush bamboo: metal brush and nylon brush. Metal bristles are very hard and used for heavy scrubbing applications, while nylon is more flexible and used for lighter scrubbing applications. Metal materials used for bristles include stainless steel, brass, and carbon steel, but nylon bristles are more commonly used.

The bottle brush bamboo uses filaments to make the brush impermeable so that the bristles will not absorb dirt, dust or other contaminants. Bottle brush bamboo is a type of brush wrapped in a wire brush. The method of making is to double a section of wire, place the bristles between the top and bottom of the double-layer wire, and then wind it up, similar to a rubber band. Two less common bristle configurations include the bristles at one end of the bristles, the handle extends from the bristles, the bristles are centered in the wire, and there are two long ends on each side of the wire. The handle is usually a twisted metal wire, usually made of galvanized steel, stainless steel, aluminum, or brass; however, a thicker type of bottle brush bamboo may use a stronger plastic handle.
